Harvey Stein’s Harlem Street Portraits collection opened last week in the Baldwin Photographic Gallery, located on the second floor of the John Bragg Mass Communication Building.

The photographs depict the people of Harlem’s everyday lives in the the New York City neighborhood.

The portraits are intended to show both the spirit and humanity of Harlem’s people as well as the inevitable change that the future will brought to the city over a 23 year period. The photos have varying numbers of subjects, and each portrays a personal encounter.

Stein will be giving a lecture on the collection on Feb. 5 at 7 p.m. in Mass Comm room 103.

Harlem Street Portraits will be on display in the gallery through Feb. 26.
