The Middle Tennessee Blue Raider volleyball team (7-19, 2-9) lost what might have been their toughest game of the year against the last-place University of Texas-El Paso Miners in straight sets on Sunday afternoon.

Makila York led the way for Middle Tennessee with 10 kills, and Brienna Tankesley led in digs with 11 on the day.

The injury-plagued Blue Raiders didn’t help themselves out much on the offensive end. They committed 21 errors throughout the game, while only being responsible for 28 kills as a team. On the other side, UTEP executed better and more efficiently on offense, as they recorded 36 kills while only committing 10 errors.

The Miners were led by freshman middle blocker Mallory Yost and sophomore outside hitter Macey Austin, with both players recording a team-high nine kills. The Miners also benefited from a key contribution from junior outside hitter Ashley Grzebeniak, who led the team with nine digs.

The MT volleyball team will be back in action at home on Wednesday as they take on non-conference rival Austin Peay at 6 p.m. The conference schedule will continue at home on Sunday at 1 p.m. as arch-rival Western Kentucky Hilltoppers come to town.
