Students Sound off on Icy Campus Conditions

Date:

Share post:

As MTSU resumes classes after this week’s winter weather, students have flocked to social media to express their thoughts and concerns on campus’ icy conditions.

Even though the university closed three days for inclement weather, many thought the closure should continue due to icy road and sidewalk conditions throughout Middle Tennessee.

Last night, many took the opportunity to make jokes about the impeding return to campus:

However, once students started their treks to class, the conversation quickly changed tones:

The students felt that the university could have better prepared for their return, with some feeling that reopening campus while sidewalks and paths were iced over displayed a lack of regard for student safety.

  1. I have the feeling that MTSU resumed normal operations simply due to the fact that MTSU is having the Mardi Gras game and didn’t want to reschedule. MTSU administration should be ashamed of this and I hope that if anyone gets hurt today they make sure to make MTSU aware of it.

  2. It’s sad when professors know there could be lawsuits due to the ice around the buildings. I was one of I’m sure many that slipped and fell on the ice!!!

  3. Get over it! I have to go to school when it’s -25 F. If I can walk 20 minutes in that and my professors can drive to work after a foot of snow. You can do the same.

  4. hey reese, you’re area is probably better equipped for snow, much less an ice storm. mtsu is a flat campus with many disabled students, including those in motorized wheelchairs and many visually impaired students who use walking sticks. not so easy for them to get around in this kind of inclement weather. and, seeing that it is a flat campus, it’ll take that much longer for the ice to melt. the campus can barely to get it together just to throw down the usual sharp rocks and boulders, their alternative to using salt, when it snows. simply put, this kind of weather is unprecedented for the area and no one was prepared for it. get out and travel some, you’ll see not everywhere is like the world you live in.
