Murfreesboro hit the runway on Nov. 22 for the “Dress To Give Fashion Affair” fundraiser at the Stones River Country Club.
The money raised from entrance fees, private donations, silent auctions and sponsors will go to Helping Hands Worldwide Services. Host George W. Manus Jr. says that they were only a couple hundred dollars away from their $3,000 goal.
Helping Hands, an organization founded by Columbia, Tennessee resident Fidel D. Pinote, raises money for school children in both local areas and in the Philippines. Pinote was raised in the Philippines and experienced poor education. When he was a student there were no tables or chairs in the classrooms, so students sat in corners of the rooms.
“It’s still the same as when I was a kid,” he said. “So every time I go home, I help those areas by giving school supplies, backpacks, tables and chairs [and] medical supplies.”
Helping Hands will be distributing the funds among local areas as well as in the Philippines. Pinote believes it’s crucial to help internationally and locally.
“If all of us get together, we can better help this community,” he said.
The seven scene show consisted of styles ranging from animal print and leather to sequins and stilettos.
