This year’s nominations for best picture are very exciting. There were so many great movies that came out in 2017. Out of the films nominated for best picture, I have seen three of them (Call Me by Your Name, Get Out, and The Shape of Water). Out of the ones that I have seen, I believe that The Shape of Water should win. It was a beautiful film that dealt with some pretty complex issues. It was beautifully shot and a joy to watch. It truly is Guillermo del Toro’s master work.
As for some of the of the other categories, Timothée Chalamet should win best lead actor for his astonishing and heartfelt performance in Call Me by Your Name and Sally Hawkins should win lead actress for The Shape of Water. Richard Jenkins and Octavia Spencer should definitely win best supporting actor and actress. And you guessed it, Guillermo del Toro should win best director. I am very, very excited to see where this year’s ceremony will go. The Oscars have, historically, been given to movies that didn’t necessarily deserve to win, but this year, there are just too many good options.
