MTSU’s Center for Chinese Music Culture held its grand opening Thursday with “The Elegance of China” program.

The center, which is located in the Miller Education Building at 503 Bell St, provides classrooms, a library and a beautiful collection of musical instruments and completed thanks to a $1 million donation from the Hanban Confucius Institute.

The grand opening featured piano soloists, opera pieces, exotic instrument performances, martial arts displays and acrobatic performers, all showcasing various Chinese art forms.

“I think that there are many precious things in Chinese national music that we would like to share with people around the world, especially Chinese national instruments,” said Mi Xuanye, a Chinese hammer dulcimer player who performed at the event. “The music Confucius Institute offers the overseas spread of China’s music every year.”
